Hello, I am a native of Tennessee, living in the southwest corner next to the mighty Mississippi. I am writing a serial of Historical Biographical Fiction and have been since 1986, the day the Challenger exploded. I was returning from the library when I heard the news on the radio. However, while at the library, I was inspired by a book falling off the shelf and landing on my foot, opening to a page that said something like, “during this time, Jesse and Frank James hid out with their relatives, the Hights, in Middle Tennessee.” As I was looking for a subject to write about, this seemed like the ticket! My relatives, the Hights, lived in Middle Tennessee and rumor had it in my family that we were somehow related and that they hid out the James boys on occasion. Word processors were scarce when I started–and laptops or desktops were unheard of in homes. So I wrote in my spare time at work on their computer (ironically at a bank). Then I changed jobs, life interfered, and my book writing was put in a closet for twenty plus years. One day I pulled it out and voila! I now have four full length novels written in “The Book”, plus a prequel novelette that is basically three short stories of the three storylines that run and intersect throughout the entire tale.
I live with a rescue pit-bull mix dog and a rescue ex-feral calico cat. My Arabian horse unfortunately had to be put down due to colic during a wicked ice storm in February 2022. Never fear, however, I’ve already taken on another rescue—a Medicine Hat Tobiano Pinto Indian Pony who is proving to be excellent fodder for an exciting new storyline to add to all the rest. My room of creation is a floor to ceiling glass sunroom that provides much inspiration with the natural light and beautiful nature right outside my window. I am a panster writer who works with an outline but lets the story write itself. I’m as surprised as my readers at the crazy things my characters say and do. But that’s my style and I’m sticking to it. Please enjoy my stories–they reflect a lot of research and creative blending of fact and legend with outright fiction. Warm Regards to all. M.C.
